we're STILL in San Francisco. We got here yesterday at 5:00 pm (pacific time) and got bumped off all the flights yesterday evening. So, we ate dinner in the terminal and around 11:00 we went back to the one bar in the terminal that stayed open to midnight. By the way, the San Francisco airport SUCKS! You cannot go between terminals to find a better place to eat. If you have a US Airways ticket, you can only go to the US Airways terminal. So, we had about 3 choices of places to eat. At the bar, we encountered a pretty tipsy couple headed for Honduras. After more rounds than I can count (of them drinking), the bought us a round of Jager shots. That helped ease the anxiety! Then we looked for a spot to sleep in the terminal. Has anyone realized that almost all of the airport seats have armrest dividers between seats, so there is hardly anywhere other than the floor to stretch out. We were promptly awakened about every 10 minutes with the automated warning to the effect of not letting someone place any belongings in your carry on bags. At that point, I don't think that was a threat. Today we have been bumped from:
7:15 AM to Charlotte, NC
8:55 AM to Charlotte, NC
10:50 AM to Philadelphia, PA
12:55 PM to Charlotte, NC
1:20 PM to Philadelphia, PA
. . . and now we're waiting for the 10:40 PM red eye to Charlotte, NC. If we can get on that, we can end up in Lynchburg by lunch time tomorrow. We will see!
Let me vent about the Customer "NO" Service here yesterday evening. When we checked in, the ticketing attendant told us that the flights were tight, but to hang out and not try to get on another flight. She said she'd get us something out. Well, by 10:40 last night she looked at me and cocked her head to the side and said "well, it's all full". There was quite a long line of people (including us) trying to get to the east coast. It all stems from the 1,900 flights that American Airlines canceled in the last 2 days. When people started asking her questions, she began speaking French to the other gate attendant, so that none of us standing in line could understand her. More than unprofessional, that was just plain rude. She got to go home at the end of her shift. We were all sleeping on the floor. You'd think she would be a little more empathetic. Her name was Kim and I hope she's working again tonight!
All in all, we probably got about 3 hours of sleep tonight. Danielle is napping now. When she wakes I think we will venture out into the terminal to find some dinner.
On a better note, our wedding last Saturday (4/5) was great! Everything turned out so much nicer than we had envisioned, and before we got back to the airport, our honeymoon was wonderful. I'll give some honeymoon details after dinner.
